Hvad er en tantal kondensator? En tantal kondensator er en elektrolytisk kondensator (til lagring af energi) baseret på tantal metal som dielektrisk materiale. Tantal er meget modstandssdygtig over for korrosion og de fleste kemiske forbindelser. Tantal kondensatorer anvendes derfor typisk i situationer, hvor man foretrækker en robust kondensator med særlig høj holdbarhed og lang levetid. De anvendes ofte i strømforsyninger, samt i elektronik, hvor der kræves kompakthed og lav lækage. Tantal kondensatorer er mere kompakte end tilsvarende aluminium elektrolytkondensatorer men de er også dyrere, da de er baseret på det sjældne tantal metal.
Bemærk at tantal kondensatorer er polære enheder der, lige som alm. elektrolyt kondensatorer, kun fungerer når strømmen flyder igennem i én retning. Den positive leder er indikeret med et (+) på komponenthuset.

What is a tantalum capacitor? A tantalum capacitor is an electrolytic capacitor (for energy storage) based on tantalum metal as the dielectric material. Tantalum is very resistant to corrosion and most chemical compounds. Tantalum capacitors are therefore typically used in situations where a robust capacitor with particularly high durability and long life is preferred. They are often used in power supplies, as well as in electronics, where compactness and low leakage are required. Tantalum capacitors are more compact than similar aluminum electrolytic capacitors but they are also more expensive as they are based on the rare tantalum metal.
Note that tantalum capacitors are polar devices, just like ordinary electrolyte capacitors, they only work when current flows through in one direction. The positive conductor is indicated by a (+) on the case.
