18-puls pr. rotation rotary encoder, med "tænder" så du kan mærke de 18 trin som svage "klik". Panel-montérbar eller du kan sætte den i et breadboard (se tilbehør), når du blot klipper eller bukker de to sidetabs. Denne encoder har også en indbygget trykknap så du kan tænde/slukke for en separat enhed. Den ene side har en 3 ben (jord og to kodningstifter), og den anden side har to ben til en normalt åben kontakt.

Rotary encodere er nyttige som rotations-sensorer eller selektorer. De ligner potentiometre, men de er slet ikke lige som potentiometre, og det er vigtigt at kende til forskellen! Rotary encodere kan drejes uendeligt rundt og er opdelt i et antal trin/segmenter (denne i 18). Hvert trin har en mekanisk "klikkende" fornemmelse, takket være de "tænder" som er indbygget i drejeknappen. Der er ingen måde hvorpå man kan kende den aktuelle position - Ved rotation forårsager hvert segment-klik blot at en kontakt åbnes og lukkes. En tilsluttet microcontroler (eksempelvis en Arduino Uno) kan således tælle hvor mange venstre- og højre-klik der drejes. Hvis du i stedet har brug for at detektere rotationel 'position' da er et potentiometer et bedre valg.

18-pulse per rotation rotary encoder, with "teeth" so you can feel the 18 steps as faint "clicks". Panel-mountable or you can put it in a breadboard (see accessories) when you simply cut or bend the two side tabs. This encoder also has a built-in push button so you can turn on/off a separate unit. One side has a 3 pin (ground and two coding pins) and the other side has two pins for a normally open contact.

Rotary encoders are useful as rotation sensors or selectors. They look like potentiometers, but they are not exactly the same as potentiometers, and it is important to know the difference! Rotary encoders can be rotated infinitely and are divided into a number of steps/segments (this one in 18). Each step has a mechanical "clicking" feel, thanks to the "teeth" built into the dial. There is no way to know the current position - When rotating, each segment click simply causes a switch to open and close. A connected microcontroller (for example an Arduino Uno) can thus count how many left and right clicks are made. If instead you need to detect rotational 'position' then a potentiometer is a better choice.
